So the largest farmer in area grows corn and soybean usually. But this year a Field down the road they went over with disc and cultimulcher first then a day or so later I went down the road and it has been Planted and the rows are hilled ?
Any idea what may be going on? I do not know of them planting anything else beside corn and soybean. I cant even think of a new style JD no till planter hilling like a potato farmer would.

Nearly everything around here is planted on ridges like that and then row irrigated. Most all farm land here is precision leveled for rice so it's an easy switch.

Hmm Interesting for sure, Last year we had a pretty good drought but most crops are rain fed. They go on I believe Fertilize corn this year beans for free next. Last year these fields had beans so this would normally be a corn year. And the only discing that is done is is wet spots where the machinery made ruts.
I guess I will have to see what pops up!!
I did see a tractor trailer go by with a liquid tanks a auger and some high tech looking boxes of some kind on rear I had never seen before the day they planted. Maybe its a new cash crop or maybe just a new way on an old one.

The large tank and auger sounds like a seed tender box. The big boys around here get their seed by the truck loads. I see those boxes from time to time if I cross the river to row crop farming country. The farms east of here are getting bigger and bigger. A 10-12000 acre operation is pretty common now. When I was in HS I only knew of a couple over 1000 acres.

Yup sounds about the same here the 2 or 3 big guys have rented all the fields they can get. But we have had so much rain this year they cant get on a lot of the fields corn should be planted and should be working on beans but one big guy said he only had 650 acres out of 4000 planted so far. This coming week does not look much better.
One guy has a huge Ih traditional planter like 30 row or some dam thing runs big stiegers and discs over fields first. and the other one is all newer JD no till have to see what one actually gets it all planted. Most fields around here are under 100 acres lots are 20 or so.

Well I think I finally figured it out, It makes sense why the rows do not look like traditional row crop.
They are double row planting, The planter and tractor kinda look like this bad boy in the link.
