probably 15 years ago, my friend Steve saw a farmall H for sale in the pennysaver. it was built in january 1940, and had the 1939 style platform and seat, and shutters on the radiator. i used my flat trailer to haul it home for him. it sat on the edge of his garden spot for a long time. in the meantime, steve had a heart transplant and had to quit his regular job. a couple years after that, he asked me about doing tractor work. after steve assured me several times that he was ok doing it, i hired him to help with planting and harvest work. it really worked well for both of us. about 5 years ago, he got melanoma on a spot on his face, which the dr kept removing, spot by spot, with skin grafts as needed.
last spring, he decided it was time to get the H running so he could bring it to my plow day. he had gotten a really nice gas tank and grille from montana, and had the old gas tank off. he wasn't feeling well, but did come over to help me with a day of disking corn ground, and another day of mowing hay. when i left for the red power roundup, he had another drs appointment. by the time i got home from rpru, he was gone.
he had left everything to his fiance. i made an offer on his H and M tractors. i gathered all the parts i could find in his shop for the H, but I couldn't locate a lot of the small parts. between Steiner Tractor, Howard, and a carb shop in Georgia, i gathered up enough parts to put it back together. i had to replace both back rims and get new tubes in the back tires. today, i got it running- not well, but running enough to see it had great oil pressure. i think with a little adjustment on the carb, it will be ready for plow day this year.

steve's HH. it still needs a choke rod, and some more tweaking with the carb.

the plow came with the H. i had to change the rotten rubber back tire for a steel wheel and put a spring (bungge cord) on the plow. points are in great shape, just rusty.

That looks good. How do you clean plows up? Do you have a gravel bar you can plow in?

i have a gravel pit on the upper side of the county road. there is a section along the road side where i have a 150' long strip on the pit floor that is nice gravel without the buried dead men that show up and stop the tractor in the deeper cut area (where i used to shine plows).
